Among the au pair´s duties belongs in the first line the care of the host family´s children. Beside that the au pair helps with daily tasks in the household. They include such things like table petting, dishwasher clearing or time to time taking care of the pets of the host family. An au pair is another family member and should be therefore never treated as a housekeeper, a gardener or a language teacher.

In return for her/his help the au pair gets pocket money as well as free board and lodging. The au pair´s duties should not exceed the permissive working time of the respective host country.
