A summer au pair lives for a short time during the summer vacations with a host family in some other country. She/he stays there as a rule for one to free months. The summer au pair has the same duties as a long-term au pair: She/he takes care of the host family´s children and supports the family with simple housework. Also the pocket money and the working time follow the regulations of a long-term au pair. During her/his stay the summer au pair deepens her/his language knowledge and gets acquainted with another culture. Sometimes she/he also accompanies the host family in holiday and takes care of the children there.

A summer au pair is suitable especially for the families which cannot take any holiday during the school vacations and need a childcare. Also for young students it is convenient to be a summer au pair during the semester vacations. It is also ideal as a start model for families or au pairs that do not know yet if a longer au pair´s stay is the right way for them.
